Frequently asked questions

13. Does the E10 petrol affect my car’s fuel consumption?

When fuel consumption is measured conventionally in litres per 100 kilometres, a slight increase in consumption may be experienced, because ethanol’s energy content is about two thirds of that of petrol. Therefore, approximately two percent more E10 petrol will be needed to produce the same amount of energy as is produced with the current petrol which contains only 5% v/v ethanol. In practice, however, fuel consumption does not literally follow the changes in fuel energy contents. The driving style has a much bigger impact on fuel consumption.
